Another lost year?

Another lost year?

Srinagar:

If the year gone by was a bad year f or academics, the currentyear seems worst. In 2019-20 at least we had completed few months of theacademic session but in the year 2021 we seem to hit a rock bottom in as far asthe academics is concerned. For a poor family, these online classes are nothingmore than a joke. In 2020 we saw a large number of pics doing rounds on socialmedia, showing teachers appearing like extra-terrestrial creatures with theirpictures getting kind of thinned out across the screen. Some times the classeswere ending abruptly and no one was able to guess what next, but now in 2021 itseems our childrens have to return back once again to online platforms, thanksto the government at least this time our childrens will not be able to seeextra -terrestrial creatures due to high speed internet. So the questioneveryone is asking is the obvious one: When to open the schools again? Supposethe peak is over and we decide to restart schools from April, what should bethe strategy to be followed? We must do away with all holidays to start with-beit Sunday, official holidays, Teacher's Day or any other day. Increase thehours of active schooling per day in every school, be it a government-ownedschool or a private school. The job of the administration should be tointensely monitor the academic sessions in schools and ensure productivity isnot compromised with. We can increase the number of classes for subjects likeMathematics and Science-surely these are the two subjects where a majority ofstudents have trouble in understanding the core concepts. We must ensure teacheravailability on all days of the week and a ready replacement should be made incase of maternity leaves, marriage leaves etc. We can also postpone the summervacations this year and the current establishment can seek a special grant fromthe central government. We hope we cover whatever academic session is lost. Wewill not let 2021 be know as the 'lost year' in as far as the academics isconcerned.
